This is the remarkable story of a young man’s 3500-mile journey across Tibet. Beginning in China, his route took him to Tibet’s ancient capital city of Lhasa, through the desolate western plateau, over 18,000 foot passes, on a pilgrimage around sacred Mt. Kailas, and across the snow-covered Himalayas to Kathmandu, Nepal. Hiking, bicycling and hitchhiking, sometimes in areas forbidden to foreigners, his survival often depended on the warm-hearted and generous Tibetan people. The trip was full of difficulty-continual rain, altitude sickness, frostbite, run-ins with the police. But the rewards were many-seeing spectacular mountain scenery, discovering a fascinating culture, feeling a sense of accomplishment for confronting the challenges.
